OFCOM gives the green light for wholesale line rental

Jon Miller, Director at uSwitch.com, an independent comparison and switching service comments:

“There are already several big players such as TalkTalk, Onetel, Post Office and Homecall who have already entered into the wholesale line rental market, but Ofcom’s proposed approval should give the green light to a flurry of other entrants who perhaps had been holding back. This should encourage competition and innovation which we would expect to lead to significantly lower prices for consumers.”

·There are currently half million customers using WLR products, this number is expected to rise to over a million by the end of 2005

There are now over 5 million customers using carrier pre-select operators for their calls, up from 3.3 million in March 2004

Miller concludes: “While switching in the home telephone and broadband markets is steadily increasing, those consumers who have yet to review their home phone and broadband providers should take the opportunity to shop around over the coming months. Switching is easy and there are significant savings to be made –.”
